New Entrants
- We have only one new entrant this week. This time, Rihanna makes her return along with N.E.R.D. in their new single titled Lemon. For those who are unaware, N.E.R.D. is a band led by Pharrell. Other than his feature on Feels with Calvin Harris and his single Happy which was huge in 2014, we haven't heard much from these guys since their last album Nothing back in 2010. As far as the song goes, I can say I kinda like this. Rihanna can showcase some of her rapping skills in this one. Yeah, I may not be sold on the lyrics, but there's just something about it that pulls me in. Overall, I can say that this one is a guilty pleasure of mine.
Do You Remember The Blurb?
- So, we're in the second month of 2018 and already we say good-bye to one song after it spent only one week on this chart. New by Daya wasn't really all that amazing in the big picture and I'm kinda happy that it left us so soon. Who knows? Maybe someday, she can actually release some good music for once (besides Don't Let Me Down).
- Now, you're probably wondering why I have Mic Drop by BTS featuring Desiigner in orange. Well, I took a couple of listens this past week and I just suffered. Yeah, I don't really get what's so good about this song. Sorry, but I'm just simply not buying into the hype.
- Of course, there's that big jump from Never Be The Same in its third week here. Not surprising given how big Camila is at this moment. I can predict that this will be another hit for her soon.
- Looks like Too Much To Ask by Niall Horan won't become another hit for him after all, seeing as it's dying out pretty much elsewhere. I'm not necessarily heartbroken about this, given that people seem to prefer the upbeat Slow Hands over this one.
- On the note of other big drops, What Lovers Do took a nosedive down to #20. Looks like this is pretty much the end of the road for this one in the wake of its successor starting to blow up, even though that one hasn't entered this countdown yet.
- However, as a consolation, Finesse made a very nice jump into the teens this week! It's one of the first of many great things that have happened on my birthday weekend! Now here's to hoping it can keep climbing higher.
- Not too much has changed in the Top 10 except some of the songs moved some spots.
- And then we come to our new #1, in which Perfect by Ed Sheeran takes the crown this week. It's no surprise that this would get there eventually. I'm definitely pleased to see it at the top. This was indeed the perfect (no pun intended) way to start my birthday weekend!

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Do You Mind by DJ Khaled featuring Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Jeremih, Future, and Rick Ross: This big collaboration turned out pretty well. I like the production, and the verses flow pretty nicely. Not much else beyond that.2. Rockstar by Post Malone featuring 21 Savage
3. Meant To Be by Bebe Rexha featuring Florida Georgia Line
4. Strip That Down by Liam Payne featuring Quavo
5. I Like Me Better by Lauv
Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Words by Daya: This song is another reason why the songwriting is not good, not to mention the drop is really annoying. Like I said, I'm hoping she can release good music for once.
Paris by The Chainsmokers: While I won't say it's quite as good as Closer or even Something Just Like This, at least Andrew Taggart shows what he is really capable of. As a plus, we get un-credited vocals from Emily Warren, which is cool.

That is a lot of artists for Do You Mind.
ReplyDelete*Sees Stay in green* Sir, I am gonna have to ask you to leave immediately. Just kidding, but I was surprised seeing that though.
Yeah, I pretty much grew back into Stay. I don't know why, but I still like it even though Zedd has done better.
DeleteOn that note, I think I actually like The Middle way more than I should (again, sorry guys), probably because of Maren Morris, who I think shines throughout the song.
Oh, and yes, that's a big collaboration indeed. You don't see those often on mainstream music. (Talking about Do You Mind>)
On the bright side, Let You Down and Lights Down Low aren't in your bottom 5 anymore :)
ReplyDeleteHowever, what is wrong with MIC drop? I will not take the fact that you suffered as an explanation... That song is awesome! The beat is so catchy and the song makes me want to dance so much. I don't see why you would hate it so much. If you hate desiigner (and I wouldn't blame you) that's fine, but BTS sound awesome here!
What's wrong?
Well, I talked about Mic Drop when it made its debut. You can check out my earlier posts if you missed them. But yeah, it's not just Desiigner. The production kills the song for me, and I'm not sold on the lyrics. It sounds way too much like some awful hip-hop/trap song I often hear in mainstream music.

ReplyDeleteWell, folks. Looks like this is finally the end of the road for this one. Quite a run if you ask me.
Oh my god. ATR is going to be pleased about that.

DeleteI'm guessing Let You Down as the biggest jump...or Lights Down Low...it played a lot during the week
ReplyDeleteThat drop from Havana was unnecessary and it kinda pissed me off.

DeleteIt is. At #15.
Delete11. Bebe Rexha featuring Florida Georgia Line – Meant To Be
ReplyDeleteEven more good news (for me). Hopefully, it stays out of the Top 10 for good.
Hopefully it follows the pattern of Havana from #6 to #11 then the biggest drop next week
DeleteSame here, but since we just jinxed it watch it roar up back into that region next week.
DeleteSeventh set of five:

Top 10 Entrants:
ReplyDeleteX Ambassadors – Ahead Of Myself
I didn't even hear Beautiful Trauma that much this week. Or Ahead Of Myself.

DeleteSay Something was expected. But I thought Supplies would've instead.
Is Hits 1 turning into a alternative station? A lot of rock songs have made it here recently.
Justin Timberlake/Chris Stapleton - Say Something and Welshly Arms - Legendary
DeleteOkay, we'll know in moments who's going to be #1 for my birthday weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh? Well, happy birthday, good sir! Almost forgot, haha.
DeleteAnd yes, before you ask, I have been checking out your other posts but haven't really had the time and/or thoughts of how to respond to them.
What about the Top 5?
ReplyDeleteIt's coming. Just wait. (Not a Maroon 5 reference)
DeleteOkay. Our #1 song this week on my birthday weekend on the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown is...
ReplyDeleteTaylor Swift – End Game!
That was unexpected.
DeleteSure! The song's been growing on me quite a bit recently, so hey, I'll gladly take it.
Delete#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Maroon 5 – Don't Wanna Know
ReplyDeleteAnd to this day, I still can't believe this was #1 on my birthday. Blech.
And here's the Top 5:

I'm quite surprised Wolves jumped into the Top 5. I'll take it considering it's better than her previous two singles.
