New Entrants
- To kick off this week's new arrivals, we have more Hey Violet with their single titled Hoodie. I briefly talked about this one on the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown when it made its debut. To recap, while the lyrical content isn't necessarily the best, their vocals sound better than their predecessors, which is part of the reason why this song is more likable to the blogging community. Not much else I can say about this one. Seeing as this one isn't gaining popularity elsewhere, it might not stay for too long, but we'll see what happens.
- Next, we have newcomer band Why Don't We making their first-ever appearance on the American Top 40. Enter Something Different, their single off of the Something Different EP. Now, I do like the beat here, and it has that cool vibe to it. My only concern is the song can get repetitive at times. That said, I can see definitely see myself growing into this someday.
- Lastly, we have the re-emergence of Sam Smith after three years out of the spotlight, in the form of Too Good At Goodbyes. As I've explained in my Hits 1 weekend countdown review, I wasn't quite as wild about this one. However, he definitely shows that he at least has some personality going on, especially in the pre-chorus. Also, he has proven to be a good songwriter, as the lyrical content is great. Overall, it may be in blue for now, but it's likely that I'll have it in green soon.

I'm Way Too Good At Writing Blurbs
- As always, we'll begin with our exits. To start, I'm shocked that Mama by Jonas Blue featuring William Singe had to leave us so soon. I thought it would stay for a least a few more weeks, but I guess I was wrong. As for the other two, I'm not surprised about Honest taking its departure since it's been declining elsewhere, and its exit brings The Chainsmokers' streak of big hits to an end. Say You Won't Let Go I was ready to part with, but it did have a nice tenure and became a sleeper hit, so props to that.
- Our Top 3 remains the same, so nothing really to talk about here.
- Well, looks like this is it for Feels after that big drop out of the Top 10, what with it faltering elsewhere at this moment. Oh well, it was nice to have this song around for a while.
- The big jump from Bad At Love was destined to happen on its second week here. Although I kinda doubt this will end up big given it's not gaining as much steam elsewhere, but I don't really care either way.
- So, a remix to Mi Gente featuring Beyoncé came out earlier today, and I can't say it's any better. As much as I love Beyoncé, not even she can save it from being complete garbage. With it somewhat gaining steam, I have a bad feeling it's going to be here to stay, so I'm preparing for the worst.
- Looks like this is the end for both Ed Sheeran songs, seeing as they're now in the Bottom 5. I do still enjoy both of those songs to some degree, so I'll be sad when they leave. One thing's for sure, though: both of them will be making the Year-End list.

Adrian won't kill you for Dark Horse in green.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe not him. I was actually talking about some people.
DeleteH e was talking about me, because it's one of my least favorite Katy Perry songs, along with This Is How We Do, Chained To The Rhythm, and Bon Apetit.
DeleteI'm definitely with you on both This Is How We Do and Bon Appétit, especially the former. As for Chained To The Rhythm, sorry, but I still think it's one of the best comeback singles we've had all year.
DeleteKnow No Better was actually at #33 last week.
ReplyDeleteAnd Bat At Love didn’t drop.
DeleteBad*
DeleteTypo on my end, sorry. Fixed now.
DeleteI haven't heard of the AT40 before, but I agree with your Top 5. I also agree with your Bottom 5 except Know No Better(Only because I haven't heard it yet)
ReplyDeleteI personally think Why Don't We is a good group. Their songs These Girls and Something Different are really catchy in my opinion. Too Good At Goodbyes sounded like I'm Not The Only One at first but now I don't think about it like that. Hoodie is good and I think it should probably have more popularity than it has right now and should be doing better on the Hits 1 WC.
Dylan, if you don't know, the American Top 40 is a weekly countdown hosted by Ryan Seacrest. They used to do it in Hollywood, but moved to New York this year.
DeleteI can see Something Different growing on me, but I can't say that for These Girls (well, at least in my opinion). As for Sam Smith, Too Good At Goodbyes also falls into the category of songs starting to grow on me.
I agree with you on Hoodie. It should be gaining steam right about now, but unfortunately, people aren't really buying into Hey Violet's music.
^These Girls got the award for “Most Cringiest Song of the Year.”
DeleteOh, and guys. Just in case you haven't heard, there's a 2015 rankdown going on right now. Here's the link:

Delete21. Stay
ReplyDeleteThe first time in what feels like forever that this song hasn't been in the Top 10 or even Top 20. Huh.
^^^^^^^
Delete20. Wish I Knew You
ReplyDelete19. Despacito
ReplyDeleteI swear, I’m getting so annoyed right now, and I think Miles is too.
So is two rounds of Monster Movies gonna be a thing now?
ReplyDeleteI guess so.
Delete18. Love So Soft (Biggest Jump?!)
ReplyDeleteYou're close. It's actually Sweat having the biggest jump of the week.
DeleteNope, that would be the next one:
Delete17. Sweat
On its third week, surprisingly, NOT its second.
Gtg.
ReplyDeleteSixth set:
ReplyDelete20. Wish I knew You
19. Despacito
18. Love So Soft
17. Sweat

DSR is down now.
ReplyDeleteWell, might go and spend 15-60 Minutes on Idle Miner.
12. Feel It Still
ReplyDeleteOver LWYMMD? Come On
What. Is FIS bad or anything?
DeleteNo, in fact it has been something I have been growing into. I just think LWYMMD is better and should be higher
Delete^^^This. Plus, it's Taylor Swift, and it should be in the Top 5 right now. What gives?!
DeleteDylan/Montavis: Yeah, that is kinda true in a few ways.
DeleteIKR? You think all the other songs by Taylor Swift that hit #1 in the past this would be at least #5.
DeleteYes! Feel It Still is jumping!
Delete11. Glorious
ReplyDeleteI heard Macklemore on Hits 1 in Hollywood being interviewed so no surprise
Mmhmm. He was being interviewed on, I think, Wednesday.

I just saw that Fetish was #30. I don't know what to say...
ReplyDeleteMe either, I already talked about it in my AT40 post last month. You can check it out, but yeah, I'm not thrilled about this debuting.
Delete4. Sorry Not Sorry
ReplyDeleteThat means Galway Girl is in the Top 3.
Yap. I swear to god if Strip That Down is at #1... keep Slow Hands and Galway Girl up there if needed.
DeleteGalway Girl has a high chance for #1.
DeleteTrue. I mean, IT IS ED SHEERAN-GALWAY.
DeleteGelography, I'm sure Adrian can say the same.
DeleteAs for me, I'm not going to be happy about it either, but at least it's NOT Body Like A Back Road.
What the frick did I just write
DeleteAnd yes, for what you said, don’t make it drop further, just make it LEAVE!!
Delete3. Slow Hands
ReplyDeleteWell, that leaves 2...I'm going to have breakfast, I'll be back soon.
Ok, you’ll see what’s #1. (I’m on the edge of my seat with no armrest hoping Strip That Down isn’t #1, like I Said)
Delete#3 Slow Hands
ReplyDeleteWe'll have a new #1. It's either Strip That Down or Galway Girl.
Former: Better not be #1, like I said 999 Times.
DeleteLatter: Keep this above.
Is Slow Hands literally still playing?
DeleteAlright. Our #1 song is...
ReplyDeleteStrip That Down. Sorry guys.

That is not very nice of Adrian.
Delete2. Galway Girl
ReplyDeleteUh-oh. Adrian is gonna be really f***ing mad.
What about you?
DeleteYes, he is definitely going to be very, very mad because Strip That Down is #1.
DeleteNot you, ATR. I was talking to Scott.
Delete2. Galway Girl
ReplyDeleteDang it.
I’m literally crying right now.
ReplyDeleteThe Chainsmokers & Halsey - Closer. Knew it wouldn't be long before we heard it again. :)
ReplyDelete7 More weeks until we stop though.
DeleteLWYMMD didn't hit #1 yet Strip That Down does...come on Hits 1
ReplyDeleteWell, more bad news: it's showing no sings of slowing down anytime soon, both in sales and radio.
DeleteGod, f*ck this countdown. Welp, can’t really do anything about it. Gonna Go head to Google Slides and do that thing I had to do earlier.
ReplyDeleteI guess for Strip That Down being #1, Hits 1 is saying sorry to me by playing more Save Me A Place.
ReplyDeleteCountdown is out, friends. I'm so sorry, everyone.
ReplyDeletehttp://sxmhits1wc.blogspot.com/2017/09/liam-payne-1-week-of-september-30-2017.html
