Biggest Jump of the Week: Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus – Old Town Road (+18)

New Entrants:

- Up first, we have the son of Dr. Phil whose name is Jordan McGraw. He makes his debut with the single titled Flexible. Right off the bat, this is a pretty underwhelming song. The production is a little too weird for my liking, and I'm not a big fan of the lyrical content. I just think it's cringe-worthy. That's just me. I don't really like his voice either. So yeah, it's pretty mediocre. The song is slightly closer to red for me than it is green, so don't be surprised if I decide to change it into that color soon.

- Next is the big return of two acts: Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber. These guys have teamed up in their latest single titled I Don't Care, which makes its second highest debut ever at #12. Having listened to the song in its entirety, I can say this is nowhere near as good as some of the singles from Divide. I think Ed and Justin both sound good with their vocals. I like the chemistry between the two artists. But my concern is that the production is just underwhelming and some of the lyrics are questionable. Overall, I do kinda like the song for the time being. But I can definitely see myself getting sick of it in about a month or so.

'Cause I Don't Blurb

- We'll start with our two exits. To begin, we have the departure of 11 Minutes, which I thought was a great collaboration between Halsey and YUNGBLUD. Too bad this didn't become a bigger hit that I wanted it to be. Finally, there's Thank U, Next, which I was losing interest in, so I'm okay with it leaving. I'd say this was probably one of the few standouts from Ariana Grande's recent album, which was not good overall.

- By no surprise, ME! ends up in the Top 3, which I'm happy about. I'm positively sure this will hit #1 in a matter of weeks. With Hits 1 still falling in love with Brendon Urie, I don't think it'll be much of a problem.

- As for the rest of the Top 10, we have some new songs making their entrance. If I Can't Have You isn't a surprise. With Shawn Mendes being as relevant as he is right now, I'm sure the song will be there for a good long while. Here With Me entering is nice to see. It is superior than anything Marshmello has released recently (except for Wolves, which was my #2 favorite song of 2018).

- Of course, Old Town Road takes a massive jump this week despite the song being absolute garbage. I am not thrilled about this. I do hope it doesn't last very long. I have a bad feeling it'll end up as being #1 of the year on Billboard, which is something I don't want.

- On the note of mediocrity, we have two songs that took big drops this week. Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored made its way out of the Top 20, which I'm happy about. That song is not good. Ariana can do so much better. Boy With Luv dropped big as well. I may not like the song, but it's quite shocking to see it take a hard fall (partly because Hits 1 loves Halsey). Then again, it's not a big hit elsewhere so I probably shouldn't be surprised by this move.

- We have more of Halsey with her newest single titled Nightmare. This is only a bit of a step up from Without Me. She sounds better vocally and I like the production, though the lyrics are still kinda questionable. I'll have more on this in the next post.

- Then, we have Martin Garrix with his new single titled Summer Days, which features Macklemore and Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy. I did a brief review of the song when it was on the YouTube 15. The groove and the beat are interesting. I like the vocals we get from Macklemore and Partick. Overall, it's a great song and I would like to see it debut soon.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:

Dustin Atlas featuring Erin Bowman – Fake A** Friends: Not much I can say about this one. Lyrically, I think it's decent. But it's not all that memorable. So yeah, I can't say I'm in love with this one.

Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA – All The Stars: Along with Pray For Me, this is one of the few standouts from the Black Panther movie soundtrack. Both artists here have great chemistry. I love the production. But SZA added a lot of life to this special song.

Selena Gomez – Back To You: It was nice to see Selena return to form (at least from a vocal standpoint). I like the instrumentation and the lyrics are nice. But the best part about the song is that she doesn't whisper at all.

Jonas Brothers (7) - Week Of May 11, 2019

So, Spyder Harrison has been on vacation for the past couple of weeks. With that, Kid Kelly has been the substitute host for those weeks. I thought he did a decent job for the most part. As far as the week went, there was certainly a lot of action (some for better and some for worse). But more importantly, we got the return of another certain act. Well actually, there are three certain acts who make their comeback. I'll have more on them later in the post. New Entrants:
- To start our new round of arrivals, we have Billie Eilish with two new songs entering the countdown. The first of which is When The Party's Over. Unlike most people here in the blogging community, I am fond of what Billie has to offer. This song is a good example of why. She has a unique & mysterious voice, and it fits her well for a song like this. I like the way it opens up. While there's virtually nothing to the production, her voice certainly makes up for it.

- Next, she gives us Bad Guy. Like I just mentioned, she has a mysterious voice and I think she uses it well in the song. The only difference between this one and When The Party's Over is that Bad Guy is a little more fast-paced. I also like the production and the beat. However, I don't think it was necessary to change the pace when we got to the bridge. But that doesn't affect my thoughts on the song. I think both songs from Billie Eilish are really good. I'm glad she is having some success. She deserves it.

- So, it was only a few months ago that Jennifer Lopez had Limitless on the countdown. I liked that song overall even though it wasn't quite her best work. This week, she gives us her new single, and she collaborates with French Montana in Medicine. I don't have much to say about the song. I don't love the lyrics, but everything else about the song is just great. The beat is just catchy and I like Jennifer's voice. It shows that she can still sing well and she hasn't lost a step. I also like the verse we get from French Montana. So yeah, I'm in love with the song overall.

- It was only a matter of time before Shawn Mendes made his comeback. He makes his return with his brand new single titled If I Can't Have You. It was around this time last year that Shawn just released his self-titled album. It consisted of In My Blood, which was the lead single, and two other songs I loved (Lost In Japan (both the original and the remix) and Youth). As far as his new single goes, I'm in love with it. The song reminds me a lot of There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back, which was my #5 best song of 2017. I definitely like the instrumentation here and the Latin vibe is great. Shawn sounds good with his voice. It is smooth and it fits him well. The lyrics are nicely written. Overall, this is a great comeback for Shawn. I'm sure it'll end up doing well on the countdown.

If I Can't Have Blurbs
- We'll begin with our exits. To start, In Betweenin' was something I would like because I thought the production was good. But his voice ruined it for me, so I'm okay with it departing. Eastside and Sunflower both had a nice run. It was good to see them get some success. Finally, 2002 was long overdue. I may have liked that one at first, but it did not stick with me and it stayed longer than it should have. It's about time that one left.

- A lot of songs dropped big that week. First off, Shallow fell down into the Bottom 5. When the song first made its re-entry, I thought it might end up going into the Top 10 at least. But its momentum has stalled once more. It's too bad its second tenure is coming to a close.

- 11 Minutes also took a massive drop this week. One would think this may end up being at least a minor hit given that Halsey has become relevant lately. But that's unfortunately not the case, and it's pretty sad because it's a good song overall. Oh well.

- And of course, Last Hurrah would end up having the Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week. Very disappointing, since it is vastly superior than I'm A Mess in every way. But of course, that one ended up doing well on Hits 1. It's a shame that I can't always get what I want.

- Now, let's get to the songs that jumped big this week. Someone You Loved and Boy With Luv (which is now in the Top 20) both made big moves upward. The former is not very interesting if I do say so myself. As for the latter, it's just simply not good and I'm not a big fan of BTS. It appears that Hits 1 is going to hold on to this for while, even though I don't like the song.

Entrant Reviews:

- Up first, we have Mabel with Don't Call Me Up. I talked about this one briefly when it debuted on the AT40. Although I do kinda like her voice, I'm not necessarily big on the production. It just feels underwhelming. This may grow on me, but right now I just find it okay.

- Immediately after that is the big return from Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber with their latest single titled I Don't Care. Right off the bat, I can't say it's anywhere near as amazing as the singles from Divide. I do think that Ed and Justin both sounded good throughout the song. They have great chemistry together. My only concern is it feels a little under-produced. While I do like the song overall, I can easily see myself getting sick of it quickly.

- Finally, we have more of Khalid with Talk. This isn't nearly as good as Love Lies and Better. I do like his voice, but the production is just underwhelming for the most part. It's not bad, but Khalid can do better.

Foster The People – Sit Next To Me: It was nice of these guys to make their comeback after a while. I can't say this was quite as good as Pumped Up Kicks, but I like what the song had to offer.
Dua Lipa – IDGAF: Although this is inferior compared to New Rules, I think her unique voice is what I love most about the song. The lyrics are nicely written as well. This was my #24 favorite song of 2018. At least Hits 1 held on to this one for a good while, while it flopped elsewhere.

New Entrants:
- Brendon Urie has two songs making its debut this week. First, his band, Panic! At The Disco, have yet another single from Pray For The Wicked titled Dancing's Not A Crime. One of the things I like about Brendon Urie is that he has a excellent voice and he shows it in his songs most of the time. This is no exception. The chorus here is great and I like the production quite a bit. However, I can do without the chipmunk voices in the background. I think they're quite annoying, but that doesn't affect my thoughts on the song overall. I do expect to see it sticking around for a while, because hello: Hits 1 still loves Brendon Urie. And I'm cool with that.

- Up next is the collaboration between K-Pop boy band BTS and Hits 1 favorite, Halsey with their latest single titled Boy With Luv. I did a brief review on the song when it debuted on Hit-Bound a month ago. To sum it all up, I'm not really a big fan of BTS and I don't really buy the hype. I guess the production is okay. But my problem with the song is that they don't sound good with their voices and I don't like the verse after the chorus. I think he sounds obnoxious there. And Halsey herself didn't add much to the song either. She only sings in the chorus, and that's about it. Overall, this is just not a good song and I hope it doesn't stay for a long time.

- And finally, we have the long-awaited return of Taylor Swift! And guess what? She is collaborating with Hits 1 favorite, Brendon Urie in their brand new single titled ME!. The last time we heard from Taylor was when she gave us Reputation. I thought was decent despite it not being nearly as good as 1989, which I think is her best album in my eyes. ME! goes in a different direction in contrast to Look What You Made Me Do, which I'm a little indifferent on. It's a happy, upbeat song that reminds me of the singles from her 1989 album. She sounds good with her voice as always. Although Brendon Urie doesn't add a whole lot to the song, I think he did well with his verse. These guys have great chemistry together. The lyrics aren't great, but I do like the production and the catchy beat. Overall, this is a solid comeback for Taylor Swift. It'll be interesting to see it hit #1 on Hits 1, which I'm sure it will.

Blurbing's Not A Crime
- As far as our exits go, Wait For You wasn't really memorable, so I'm kinda happy about its departure. I was growing out of Natural, but it did have a nice tenure here. Undrunk left a little sooner than I expected. I thought it might end up becoming a sleeper hit, but it just didn't happen.

- It was nice to see Low Key take a massive drop that weekend. That song was just a disappointment for Ally Brooke. She did recently release her latest single titled Lips Don't Lie, which I think is better.

- On the note of drops, it appears that High Hopes is finally starting to die out. We're getting close to its one-year anniversary of being on the countdown. I have a feeling it may end up lasting a year, much like some of the other songs did in the past.

- We get a brand new Top 10 entrant in the form of Walk Me Home. I'm not sure how I feel about this. While I do like the song, it is nowhere near her best work. I guess I'm okay with it staying there, but I'll probably end up getting sick of it fairly quickly.

Entrant Reviews:

- Kygo replaces himself with one of his new singles, titled Carry On, which features Rita Ora. Kygo has not yet disappointed me with his music. This song is another example of how talented he is as a producer. It's not quite as amazing as his other singles, but everything about this song still stands out. I love Rita's voice. Overall, it's a solid song.

- Immediately after that, we get the comeback single from Shawn Mendes after a short while. It comes as no surprise that this would be on Hit-Bound with him hosting the countdown that weekend. I'll talk more about this in the next post, but the song reminds me a lot of There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back, which was a huge favorite of mine.

- Next, we have another artist who makes their comeback. Andy Grammer gives us his latest single titled Don't Give Up On Me, which is taken from the Five Feet Apart movie soundtrack. I like the instrumentation in this one and his voice sounds really good. I can feel the emotion. I'll have more on this when it debuts.

- Finally, we have P!NK with another new single from her recently released album Hurts 2B Human, by the name of Hustle. I would've preferred the title track over Hustle, but this is still decent. I kinda like her voice for the most part. I don't see it sticking with me, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if it debuts.

Song Reviews:

- We'll start with the late Avicii with his posthumous release titled S.O.S., which features singer Aloe Blacc. The song shows why he was a great producer. I think the production is good, and I like Aloe's voice. Overall, this is a solid song.

- Next, we have more of Why Don't We with their new single called Don't Change. I won't say this is quite as good as their other singles, but I like what the song has to offer. I like the lyrics and I think these guys sound decent with their voice. Not much else I can say beyond that.

- Jonas Blue and Theresa Rex are collaborating with each other in their latest single titled What I Like About You. I can't I'm liking this one too much. The production isn't quite as good and I don't really like her voice. But I do think the lyrics are well-written. 

- Remember Juice WRLD? Well, he's back and this time around, he has a new single titled Fast. I'll say it's slightly better than Lucid Dreams, but that's not really saying much. The production is underwhelming and I don't like his voice, although it's not annoying. Overall, I'm not feeling the song.

- The Chainsmokers are collaborating with Ty Dolla $ign and bülow in yet another new single they've recently released, by the name of Do You Mean. I think this is a solid song overall. While it's not quite their best work, it shows me that these guys are still talented as producers. The beat here is kinda catchy. I like bülow's voice and I think Ty Dolla $ign made a nice contribution to the song.

- Alan Walker makes his return, and he collaborates with Sabrina Carpenter in On My Way. I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, the production is decent and it shows that Alan Walker is a solid EDM producer. But my problem is Sabrina doesn't sound good with her voice and I think that affected my thoughts on the song. Yeah, this is okay, but Alan has done better.

- Finally, we get an interesting collaboration between EDM artist Martin Garrix, Macklemore, and Fall Out Boy member Patrick Stump in their new single called Summer Days. Speaking of summer days, we're getting close to the hot weather. I do hope everyone here has plans for their summer vacation. Anyway, the song is a little different compared to what Martin Garrix has done in the past. I like the verses we get from Macklemore and Patrick. The production and the groove are nicely done. Yeah, this is solid all around.

- Remember Daddy Yankee? You know the guy behind one of the biggest hits of 2017, Despacito? Well, he's back, and he's collaborating with Katy Perry in Con Calma. Now, this is nowhere near as good as Despacito, but I do like what the song is going for. It's a little different for Katy, but it's nice to know that she can sing Spanish. The Latin vibe here is great, and I think the verses flow nicely. Overall, this is a good song.

- Now, for our biggest debut of the week, we have Taylor Swift who makes her comeback this week! She is collaborating with Brendon Urie in their new single titled ME!. The song is different compared to her singles from Reputation, which I thought was decent even though it wasn't her best album. It reminds me more of the singles from 1989. Taylor and Brendon both have great chemistry together. I think the chorus is just awesome and I like the catchy beat. So yeah, I'm in love with this and it'll likely be staying for a long while, and I'm cool with that!

Hey, Kids! Blurbs Are Fun!
- Dang! I didn't really expect Undrunk to leave us so soon! Early on, I thought it had the potential to be a sleeper hit. But I guess the momentum died down quickly. Meanwhile, the departure of Low Key was pleasing. I still like Ally Brooke and I'm looking forward to more music. But this was just disappointing debut single for her. I'm glad it didn't end up becoming the next Havana.

- Other than ME!, we get another Top 10 entrant in the form of Old Town Road, which I'm not thrilled about. I'm sure most people here know how I feel about the song. The song straight up sucks and doesn't deserve to be in the Top 10. Unfortunately, I know it's going to be here to stay for a while.

- I'm not all that thrilled about Wow. being in the Top 5 either. The song is just underwhelming, especially when it comes to the production. Post has done better.

- Talk is gaining momentum, which I'm not all that happy about. I would prefer if this didn't become a hit. There's really nothing special about the song. Khalid has done better in my opinion.

New Entrants:

- We have two entrants for the week, and I can't say I'm very pleased with them. First, we have Bryce Vine making his return with his new single titled La La Land, which features YG. Last year, Bryce Vine made his debut with Drew Barrymore, which was bland all around. His latest single isn't any better. The production just sounds underwhelming and the beat isn't very interesting at all. Bryce's voice is just not good. YG didn't add much to the song either. His verse did nothing for it. So yeah, I'm not feeling the song overall.

- Up next, we get a collaboration between K-Pop band BTS and Halsey in their new single titled Boy With Luv. I'm not really a big fan of what BTS has to offer. I just don't really get the hype. After hearing the song in its entirety, I can say that I'm not in love with this. I think the production is okay and the beat is alright. But I'm not feeling the vocals here. They don't really shine in any part of the song and I think the rap verse sucks. Another problem is that Halsey makes virtually no contribution to the song. She only sings in the chorus, and that's about it. It's possible that the song may grow on me. But right now, I'm not impressed.

- So we get the departure of Beautiful, which lasted quite a while on this countdown even though it virtually died down elsewhere. Bazzi just recently released his new single, so I doubt we've seen the last of him. We also say goodbye to You Say. I enjoyed the song even though Lauren Daigle sounds like Adele. It'll likely make the Billboard Year-End for 2019, and I'm definitely pleased with its longevity there. That song will be missed by me.

- So...I don't really have too much to say in the way of blurbs. However, we do have Love Lies which celebrated its one-year anniversary of being on this countdown. Congrats to Khalid and Normani!
